5. Engage in professional growth and leadershipModel life long learning, keep constant check on your own tech and digital fluency. Be a global citizen and educator by engaging in discourse and professional development with colleagues around the world. Be a leader in your community by advocating for equitable access and more technology in classrooms. Review and reflect on new research and digital tools to improve the effectiveness and relevance of your teaching. Contribute to the discourse and spectrum of digital resources by being an active and reflective participant.
How I Meet Standard No. 5Technology and digital resources expand my horizons for professional growth in a multitude of ways. Fluent in the processes of Google Apps including Google Slides, I am able to create engaging presentations with the additional perspective of my colleagues. The shared interface of Google Slides make it incredibly easy to connect with your fellow creators in the organizing, production, and distribution of content. Recently, I worked together with a team to discover and share the pros and cons of using tech tools in the classroom. A link to that presentation is below. Please check it out! Not only does technology assist in the collaborative nature of the work of the educator but in the development of ideas and growth. Digital networking provides previously untapped resources to educators around the globe. The online web of theory, discourse, and materials that connected educators utilize and participate in is referred to as a Professional Learning Network. Everyone should have one! If you would like to learn more about this additional resource, see my link below for an informative blog post.
Another important element of participating in a PLN is being an active contributor. In the creation of this very website, I have built an online presence and space for the circulation of my own ideas, reflections, and content that could potentially spark discussion and innovation with other educators. Each educator has their own specific skills and experience to bring to the table. Think of the incredible opportunities to be had if all educators, students, and administrators were active participants in an ongoing discourse. Progress! I also keep an active Twitter account to join in on Twitter conversations with fellow educators and keep up with institutions that could provide material for my classroom such as NASA, National Geographic, and TED-ed. As an amateur filmmaker, I have also delved into the world of iMovie. To share my perspective on being a multicultural educator, I created a video that can be found below. Perhaps this video can assist in the professional development of other educators. |
